Cheri Ruch, Counseling Student Intern

Meet Cheri

I bring a unique perspective to counseling, shaped by years in the legal profession and formal training at William & Mary. In my previous work, I walked alongside people during some of their most challenging moments, offering comfort and advocating for justice. That experience deepened my compassion and gave me a strong foundation for the work I now do as a therapist. I specialize in supporting veterans, first responders, and their families, communities that often face unique emotional challenges. Along the way, I’ve learned that trauma looks different for everyone, and healing requires an approach that honors each person’s story. My commitment is to provide a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered.

As a person-centered, trauma-informed therapist, I believe in meeting you exactly where you are. Together, we’ll shape your healing journey around your needs and goals. I draw from evidence-based approaches, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the Gottman Method (Level II) for couples, tailoring each session to what supports you best.
